General

  • We have over 25 online courses which are a series of video lessons on a topic presented by an expert double bass tutor. The courses are all expertly designed by our tutors in a step-by-step order that makes sense. The videos are accompanied by any relevant sheet music, transcriptions, or backing tracks. We have a huge range of topics to pick from in our course library.

  • Our Masterclasses are long-form, in-depth interviews with some of the world’s best double bass players. Instead of teaching lessons, DDB founder, Geoff Chalmers interviews the Artist who shares their insights into musicianship and double bass playing. It’s a unique chance to find out more about some of your favourite artists.

  • Course bundles are a set of two courses designed together, presented by the same tutor. You can save money on course bundles as opposed to purchasing the courses separately.

  • Discover Double Bass does not offer a subscription service. Each course purchase is a one-off payment. We do not offer subscriptions, including cross-course subscriptions, in order to better financially support our tutors and honour each topic equally.

The Courses

  • Yes, you can view the lessons online via any internet browser.

Please note, Apple has recently stopped support of older devices and this may affect video playback. However, it may be possible to view the videos in an alternative browser.

  • As long as you need. There are no further charges once you enrol and you can study at your own pace.

  • The tutors are not available to answer questions directly. However, we do include membership of a private forum called the Study Group in which you can ask Geoff Chalmers questions and interact with fellow double bassists who are also working on the course.

  • The videos are available to stream anytime, but you can't download them. You can download any accompanying PDFs and MP3 files.

  • English subtitles are not available on the following courses:

    • ‘Creating Walking Bass Lines’ and ‘Soloing’ by Geoff Chalmers.

    • All courses by Lauren Pierce.

All of our other courses and masterclasses include optional English subtitles.

  • English subtitles can be turned on by using the CC button in the video player. We don’t offer subtitles in other languages.

  • If you would like to print the music and materials from the course, download the PDFs to your device first before connecting to your printer. If you’re having trouble printing the PDFs, try following the following steps:

    • Download the PDFs to your device (don’t try and print from within your internet browser).

    • Download the PDFs from a Chrome browser if possible.

    • Make sure your printer and device software are up-to-date.

    • If your PDFs are printing but with all the music notes missing, turn off the SRDx plug-in in your printer settings. This setting removes suspected dust particles from the page, sometimes removing the music notes from the PDFs.

If you’re still having any problems, email us at support@discoverdoublebass.com.

  • That depends on your background and experience. If you are new to the double bass then we suggest you consider our Beginner’s Double Bass course or our Beginner’s Classical Bass course. For more experienced players it’s up to you to decide what area of study best meets your needs. If you need any help making up your mind, please send us an email and we will get right back to you with a recommendation.

  • Yes! You can buy a course for anyone else, by selecting the gift option when enrolling on the course. Find out more on our gift a course page.

  • All our courses are sold in US dollars (United States) and you can purchase the courses from anywhere in the world.

  • Sometimes, our customers report problems with videos in their courses no longer playing or appearing. As our course provider updates their software, it can sometimes become incompatible with the device or browser you might be using.

Please take the following steps if this has happened:

    • Switch to a different device to see if the problem persists.

    • Ensure your device (laptop, phone or tablet) is up to date.

    • Update your internet browser (Google Chrome is often best for video playback)

    • Check your security settings - there might be an ad-blocker or pop-up window blocker stopping the videos.

    • Please note, Apple has recently stopped the support of older devices and this may affect video playback. However, it may be possible to view the videos in an alternative browser.

If you’re still having issues with video playback, please get in touch via email.

  • If you are using the browser firefox and the videos are not displaying on the website or in the courses, please check your privacy and security settings. If Enhanced Tracking Protection is set to ‘strict’ the videos will not play - please change the setting to ‘standard’.

Refunds

  • We have a 30-day full refund policy on all of our courses. Please send us an email if you find your course is not a good fit and we will refund your payment as soon as possible.
