Thumb Position Below The 1 Octave Harmonic

In this double bass lesson I teach you what I call ‘lower’ thumb position technique, which involves using the thumb below the 1 octave harmonic. For example playing lower than the G harmonic on the G string.
I feature one of my own compositions which uses this technique in the introduction.
After the introduction I play a riff with a lot of shifting, so it’s great for practising moving in and out of thumb position. There’s also a few pinched harmonics which can sound really cool on upright bass.
